    Congratulations.

My degree from Florida State is a MS. I was disappointed that it was not a MLS or MILS or MLIS.

    Congrats again, Nicole!

I certainly cannot speak for every program, but no, it shouldn't. Many of them used to be, but many have not been for a long time. We are just in the habit of speaking/writing that way, but even those habits show a lot of diversity. You earned a Masters Degree in the subject of LIS or IS or such. Some fields still have degrees with their disciplines in the titles, perhaps MSW for Masters of Social Work, but I think the trend in higher ed is to go back to the more typical Masters (MS, MA, MFA) and count the disciplinary part as what it is, a discipline.

Or I could be full of it. ;) But I think that has been the trend for a while now.

Congrats. You know, your post jsut made me realize... I never received a paper diploma from the library institution I graduated from a year and a half ago! Hmm, I guess I should look into that.
  • Gwen · 2 years ago
    Congratulations, Nicole. Well done!

My 1988 degree from Drexel also says Master of Science and is a modest 8x10.
  • Lisa · 2 years ago
Yay, congrats! I had the same questions when my diploma arrived from Drexel. Why the heck is it so big? My undergrad diploma is a modest 8x10. Finding a frame for the diploma for Drexel was a big of a challenge.

And while I think I understand the reasoning behind just indicating "Master of Science" on the diploma, I object! After all, we worked hard to get this degree, and it would be awesome to see the words, "Master of Library and Information Science" on that expensive piece of paper. It's not too much to ask, is it?
  • Nicole · 2 years ago
8x10 was what I wanted - I had to buy an 11x14 frame and not use the matte because it was for an 8x10 document ... oh well!
  • Lisa · 2 years ago
And obviously, I can't spell today: "big of a challenge" should have read "bit of a challenge." Sheesh.

Here's an odd question for you, and others: do you hang yours on the wall of your office (or cubicle) at work, or is it at home?
  • Nicole · 2 years ago
Mine's on the wall at work - doesn't make sense for it to be here at home ... and it doesn't go with the decor :)
